SASSA Social Relief of Distress Grants is a flagship program of SASSA that provides financial assistance to deserving citizens. SASSA SRD R350 grant is provided to poor people who cannot meet their basic needs and face financial difficulties.

South African citizens, refugees, asylum seekers, and special permit holders between the ages of 18 and 60 who have no means of employment and are not receiving financial support from any other organization. SASSA provides financial assistance to them through the Social Relief of Distress Grant.

Eligibility Criteria SASSA SRD Grant 2024

  • The applicant must be a permanent resident of South Africa, and asylum seekers and special permit holders can apply under section 22.

  • Monthly income for SRD grant should not exceed 624

  • If you receive scholarships from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme, you are not eligible for the SRD grant.
  • Such D-Grant will not be provided to Government employees.
  • If you have been unable to do any work for the past six months, you may be eligible for the SRD grant.
  • If there are two members of your household and your sole dependent dies in an accident, you can apply for an SRD grant.
  • Suppose you have been affected by a natural disaster while living in South Africa and have lost all your property and employment. You may receive an SRD grant under the Disaster Management Act or the Fundraising Act 1978.

Application Process Of SASSA SRD Grant

The Application procedure for a SASSA SRD Grant is very easy. To apply for an SRD Grant, you must have a stable internet connection on a laptop or mobile phone. You can apply for the SRD R350 Grant by following the steps below.

  • To apply for SASSA SRD, save the WhatsApp number 082 046 8553 provided by SASSA on your mobile.
  • Then, send an SMS to this WhatsApp number.
  • The representative will ask you for some personal information, give him all your information, and proceed.
  • You will receive an OTP code reference number and a link to the SRD website in the chat.
  • After clicking the link, enter the received OTP and click the confirm button.
  • Then, you have to enter your ID card number and name for verification. You must enter all this information as written on your National Identity Card.
  • After submitting the details, consider the next step.

Apply Through Chatbot

  • Open the SASSA website in your browser.
  • Click on the SASSA Assistant Chatbot provided below.
  • Enter your ID card number and mobile number in the chat.
  • You will be provided with some options in the chat. You must click “I want to apply for SRD R350 grant.
  • You will receive the SRD website link as soon as you complete the above step.
  • Click on the link provided and continue to the second step.

Agree to the Terms & Conditions

A terms and conditions section will appear in front of you, which you must read and agree to to proceed to the next step. If you do not agree to these terms and conditions, you cannot apply for SRD Grant.

Fill Out Personal Information

In the next step of the application, personal information will be collected from you:

  • Your identity card number
  • Applicant’s full name and surname
  • The gender of the applicant
  • Your complete residential address and its proof.
  • Your complete contact details like phone number and email address, etc.
  • Information about your employment and financial situation.
  • Supporting documents that prove your eligibility.
  • Please remember that if SASSA wants to get any other communication besides the above, it may ask you.

Select Preferred Payment Method For Grant

If you apply for an SRD grant for the first time, you will be asked to select a payment method. You must provide one of the two methods below.

  • Bank account

Bank Account

If you wish to receive your payment in your personal bank account, you must provide the following banking details provided below.

  • Name of the bank
  • Account no
  • Branch Code
  • Account type

Note that the bank account information you are providing must be in your name. Because SASSA does not accept payment into another person’s bank account

SASSA Application Verification Process

Your application process has been completed and forwarded to SASSA Officials, where your application will be verified and processed from the government database. Whether the information you have provided is correct and whether you are eligible for the grant.

  • Your identity card number, name, and other personal details will be verified according to the database provided by the Home Department.
  • SASSA will verify your data from UIF, SARS, and NSFAS that you are not receiving any assistance from them.

Suppose you live in a remote area of South Africa and do not have access to the Internet. You can apply for an SRD grant by entering the USSD code *134*7737# from your mobile phone. USSD Code has been released so poor and deserving people can apply for SRD Grant.

What Is the Reapplication Process For SRD R350 Grant

The reapplication process for an SRD grant is similar to the initial application submission process. You can reapply to SASSA SRD because you are getting an SRD grant earlier, and your grant period has expired. But you want to get an SRD grant again because your situation has yet to improve. So, you can apply for a reapplication grant by visiting the SASSA website. SASSA will thoroughly review your application, and your circumstances will determine whether you are eligible to receive the SRD grant again. How To Lodge An Appeal Against SASSA SRD R350 Grant

How To Cancel SRD R350 Grant Application

If you submit an SRD grant application and your financial situation improves between the processing and verification of your application, you may cancel your grant. For this, you first need to check whether your application has been approved, for which you can use SASSA Status Check.

  • You must check that your grant is inactive to cancel your application, so you don’t need to withdraw from anyone. If your grant is active, you can cancel your application by following the steps below.
  • First of all, you have to visit the SASSA SRD website.
  • Click the Get OTP button after entering the ID card and phone numbers.
  • The six-digit OTP will received on the registered phone number.
  • You have to provide this OTP in the space provided and click on the verify pin button.
  • A new screen will show you where you can see the “Cancel My Grant” button.
  • You must click the Cancel My Grant button and enter your reasons.
  • After that, you will be shown an application cancellation screen. If you want to cancel your application, click yes, and it will be withdrawn.

Method To Reinstate Canceled SASSA SRD R350 Grant Application

Reinstating your canceled SASSA SRD application is very easy. Sometimes, situations arise when you want to get SRD current again because you cannot meet your basic needs, are unemployed, and cannot support your family. So, you can restore your approved application with the method provided below.

  • First of all, you have to go to the SASSA SRD website.
  • On the website, you will see two boxes in which you must enter your card number and phone number 10 and then click the send pin button.
  • After a few moments, you will receive another 6-digit TP on your registered phone number, which you must provide in the box and click the verify pin button.
  • Terms and conditions will be provided, which you must read and agree to in full.
  • You will then see a screen that says, “Reinstate my grant.” Click on it to proceed to the next step.
  • Then, on the next screen, you must mention that you want to resume your canceled application. Then, you must click on the yes button, and your application process will start.

Updating Your SRD Grant Personal Details

If you want to receive the payment of your grants without any hindrance, you must keep all your personal information, like your contact number, name, and bank details, up-to-date. If you need to update any of this information, you can do so by following the procedure below.

Contact Detail Change

If you want to change your contact details, first of all, you have to go to the official website of SRD and click on the contact change link. After that, a scan will be shown. In this, you have to provide your 13-digit South African Identity Card and 6-digit Application ID. This Application ID is provided to you at the time of submission of your SASSA Grant application.

You provide both of these to verify that you are the original applicant and wish to change your contact details. As soon as you confirm, you will see a box in which you must provide and submit your new information. Within 24 hours, you will receive an update SMS from SASSA Officials stating that your contact details have been changed.

Banking Details Changing Method

Suppose you are an approved beneficiary of the SASSA SRD R350 grant and want to change your banking details. So, enter your 13-digit ID card number in the box below and click on the submit button. After this, you will receive a secure link on your registered phone number. You can click on it to proceed with your request. You can change your banking details and get your grant on time by following the instructions from the link.

Updating Name and Surname

If you need to change your name Or surname, go to the SASSA SRD website and file a request to correct your first and last name. For which you will be provided a form. You must enter your 13-digit South African ID card number and your correct name and surname. And finally, submit this form, after which SASSA will match your details with the Department of Home Affairs database and update them.
