SASSA grants will be phased out of physical cash payment points and cash payments within post offices. Starting in September 2024, higher grant payments will be made through Gold Card and physical cash pay points, and the cash payment phase will be abolished.

SASSA and Post Bank have announced that payment of SRD grants from all CPPs and Post Office branches will be completely stopped by 31 March 2024. Therefore, all SASSA social grant recipients are requested to ensure their payment process by the new methods through NPS.
Why are SASSA Grants Phasing-out from Post Offices?
The decision to remove cash payment points for SASSA grants was made in 2018 for the betterment of customers. But it could not be implemented better at this time. The decision to move away from cash distribution in CPPs has been announced for the following reasons:
- To improve the overall payment system for SASSA customers.
- Cash-in-transit robberies were increasing day by day.
- CPP sites were facing some unfamiliar situations.

How and Where to Withdraw SASSA Grants By Latest Method?
By December 2023, an estimated 98% of SASSA beneficiaries will be using the National Payment System (NPS) to withdraw their grants. Therefore, stopping SASSA grants from cash payment points and post offices will not significantly impact the withdrawal process. All SASSA beneficiaries will not be affected by this change.
Now, SASSA users can withdraw money through the National Payment System channels. They can withdraw their grant through the NPS channel approved by the government using their gold card in a timely, efficient, secure, reliable, and convenient manner.

- Also, you can withdraw the amount of your SASSA SrD grants using any bank ATM.
- You can also withdraw your SASSA grants through the NPS channels in your area by using the gold cards at five Latest Sassa Grants cash pay points or SASSA partners, including Boxer, Pick n Pay, Spar, Shoprite, Usave, and Checkers.
Is SASSA grant recipients still be able to use their Gold Card?
SASSA grant recipients can use the Gold Card to withdraw their grant money. Rumors of the Gold Card’s closure have been spread falsely. So far, the SASSA government has not notified the Gold Card’s closure. SASSA and Post Bank have ensured that SASSA Gold Cards have not expired.
